Service industry personnel have the highest risk of burnout as a result of constantly dealing with ‘other people and their problems’. It could be said that our volunteers and staff community engagement practitioners are in the service industry.
An understanding of the causes of burnout is fundamental to being able to develop effective strategies to avoid and overcome burnout in engagement staff and volunteers, keeping them committed, developing positive relationships, working corroboratively and satisfied with their long-term role.
